Ellis Varsity Field Hockey won WPIALS Class 1A,  against Shady Side Academy on November 1, 2016, with a final score of 3-1. The three goals were made by each forward: Angelina Scheuermann (Junior), Olivia Simon (Junior), and Leah Ewers (Sophomore).

During the game midfielder Lysa Meyers (Junior), was injured from a flying ball. Freshman Aira Bazaz filled in for her. Lysa then quickly recovered and got back into the game. For the first half of the game, the score was tied 0-0.

Ellis scored a goal quickly after half-time was over. Shady Side then tied the game with a goal on a corner, when the entire team was at the goal pushing the ball into the Ellis cage. Ellis Head Coach Amanda Rose explained that having the entire team during a corner “was a good and bad thing, because then there is a bigger chance of getting a goal. But if we get the ball out, then they have no one to stop us.”  Ellis quickly recovered and scored two more goals in two minutes.

Once the game ended, the entire Ellis Varsity team ran towards their goalie Courtney Baldwin. There was a massive team hug, which included many team members crying out of joy.  Following the game, Ellis players went to celebrate their victory at Handel’s Homemade Ice Cream.
